Woodhall Estate

Relaunching a digital estate which embraces the future

For over 200 years, Woodhall Estate has been cherished for its heritage, protected landscapes and vibrant communities

Client Overview

Woodhall Estate is a family-run heritage estate in Hertfordshire, home to a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, and event spaces. With a legacy rooted in sustainability, community, and stewardship, the Estate needed a digital transformation to reflect its modern vision while celebrating its rich history.

The Challenge

Woodhall Estate approached Quba with a clear objective: to unify its digital presence under a cohesive strategy that could better communicate its “One Estate” ethos.

Their existing website didn't offer relevant or up to date information across the Estate’s three main divisions:

  • Woodhall Estate – The central hub showcasing community, conservation, and heritage.
  • Woodhall Park – A luxury accommodation and event venue hosting weddings and corporate retreats.
  • Woodhall Locations – A film and photography destination for production companies.

The Estate wanted to:

  • Move away from third-party booking platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com.
  • Strengthen its brand voice and identity.
  • Promote the full scope of its facilities and partnerships.
  • Build a digital framework that could scale with its long-term growth.

Above all, the family brand as stewards of the Woodhall Estate wanted to be “prouder of its achievements” and avoid presenting as just another stately home.

Our Approach

Quba began with a comprehensive discovery and scoping phase, working closely with the wider Woodhall communications team to understand their business model, audiences, and brand values.

Discovery & Strategy

Through collaborative workshops and exercises, including a Business Model Canvas and Card Sorting Activities (as shown on pages 6 and 21 of the scoping document), we mapped user needs and content hierarchies for each site. This helped us define how each audience, from local residents and business partners to wedding planners and location scouts , would engage with the Estate online.

We identified three guiding principles:

  1. Unify the brand across three sites while preserving the distinct tone of each.
  2. Create clear user journeys to drive enquiries and bookings.
  3. Design for scalability with a flexible digital framework.

Content & User Experience

Our content-first approach focused on creating an elegant, story-led experience, one that showcased Woodhall’s heritage, sustainability, and modern enterprise. We recommended a centralised navigation model to connect all three sites under one intuitive framework

We also analysed Google Analytics data to understand audience behaviour. With 62% of visits from organic search, we advised a content architecture that supports discoverability and future SEO growth

The Solution

We proposed a multi-site design system that provides:

  • Consistent navigation and UX patterns across all three sites
  • Brand flexibility, allowing each division to have its own visual identity
  • Custom components for unique content types such as film location catalogues and wedding portfolios

Design exploration emphasised:

  • Imagery-driven storytelling, using photography to reflect the Estate’s authenticity and heritage
  • Elegant typography and colour palettes, rolling out the new Woodhall brand assets
  • Space to breathe, ensuring a premium look and feel

The platform’s technical foundation was designed for scalability, performance, and ease of content management. It supported multi-site content governance, robust analytics integration, and the flexibility to evolve alongside the Estate’s long-term ambitions.

Results & Impact

While still in the implementation phase, the Woodhall project has already achieved key strategic outcomes:

  • A clear digital roadmap aligning content, design, and technology
  • A unified brand narrative that reflects the “One Estate” ethos
  • Improved user experience design built around audience needs and conversion goals

This work lays the foundation for a best-in-class digital estate that celebrates Woodhall’s heritage while positioning it for the future, a space where community, creativity, and conservation thrive together.
