Dubbed “Cyber Monday” today looks likely to break all online sales records, said retail trade body IMRG. Internet sales could hit £350 million today alone with sales for December achieving as much as £5 billion.

With the UK workforces first Monday in December since payday and many having already researched their Christmas purchases, retailers can expect bumper sales. Those that are expected to perform particularly well are Electrical goods, DVD and games retailers.

IMRG research found that 77% of shoppers this year planned to do at least half their shopping online. John Lewis, Play and Amazon all expect to see increases in sales in the run up to Christmas of between 15% to 30%.
